On a study trip to New York in 1949, the youngish architect Jørn Utzon met the oldish architect Frank Lloyd Wright. During a group discussion Wright held up an empty glass and asked what was most important about it. Utzon replied, "The greatest importance of a glass is the space within." Taking a sip from Utzon’s Spring glass design, you clearly understand the reasoning as well as the name behind the product. It actually feels like drinking from a clear mountain spring. To Utzon, drawing and giving form to great and small buildings, furniture, cutlery or a drinking glass were all part of a unified creative continuum for the architect who loves his trade.
