The Moominvalley Moomin mug was released in 2017 to celebrate the opening of the very first Moomin Museum in Tampere, Finland. The Moominvalley mug is sometimes referred as “The Aquarelle Moomin Mug” and it is Arabia’s first fine art mug. This mug is a tribute to Tove Jansson and to her art collection that she donated to Tampere Art Museum in 1986. The mug’s artwork was originally made as Tove Jansson’s novel’s Finn Family Moomintroll’s cover image for the French edition “Moumine Le Troll”. The mug’s extraordinary artwork features a total of 27 different shades. The mug’s bottom stamp is replaced by Moomin Museum’s logo, where Moomintroll is watching over his shoulders, instead of painting like on the stamps of other mugs. The Moominvalley Moomin mug was originally only sold in the Moomin Museum, but was later on available through other retailers as well.

Tove Slotte

Arabia’s Moomins are turned from stories to ceramic illustrations by designer Tove Slotte. She has been drawing Moomins onto Arabia items since the beginning of the 1990s. The designer draws inspiration from Tove Jansson’s original illustrations, which she adapts to ceramic shapes. The Moomins have always been close to Tove Slotte’s heart. She articulated the significance of the Moomins nicely when she said: I think everyone should enjoy a little dose of Moomin philosophy every day.
